Odis Honeycutt
June 6, 1928 - January 11, 2018

Odis Varnell Honeycutt June 4, 1928 – January 11, 2018, resident of Moss Point Mississippi, passed away peacefully after a short illness at the age of 89. Odis was born and raised in Iuka, Tishomingo County, Mississippi. He has been a resident of Jackson County since 1953. He was one of two children born to the late Russell Lloyd Honeycutt and Edith Cutshall Honeycutt of Iuka, Mississippi and was the beloved husband of Linda Hollinger for over 25 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Jesse “W.J.” Honeycutt, beloved family pets, “Missy” and “Bootsie”.

In addition to his wife, Linda Hollinger Honeycutt of Helena MS, he is survived by; a son, Robert Lloyd Honeycutt of New Orleans, LA; two daughters, Glynda Honeycutt Smith (Wesley) of Pascagoula, MS and Cindy Honeycutt Steen (Timmy) of Gautier, MS; two grandchildren Broocks Smith Hutcherson (Rick), Tristyn Steen; two great grandchildren, William and Wyatt Slonneger; and the mother of his children, Genita Stuart Honeycutt of Gautier, MS, devoted family friends, Eva Mae Hollinger, Roy Cooper, Harry Boyd, Lane Ray (Bobbie Ray Hutchinson), Chester and Debbie Sneed, Sandy and Debbie Shimp, and family pets.

Mr. Honeycutt retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding as a Senior Foreman in 1990, after being a shipbuilder for over 36 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, having reached the 32nd degree, a member of the Shrine Temple, a life member of the VFW and a past member of the American Legion. Mr. Honeycutt proudly served in the US Army in Korea, where was wounded. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with friends and family on the Pascagoula River where he and his wife owned their home away from home ‘’river camp”. “Odis”, to his friends, “Varnell” to his family, was also an avid musician and member of the “Nite Sounds” Variety Band whereas he continued to play his bass guitar at various events.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, January 19th, 2018, at 10:30 am-11:30am, services to be held 11:30 at O’Bryant O’ Keefe Funeral Home; the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may to be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 4400 Audubon Lane, Gautier, MS or
